Why Become a Periclean Institution?

Being part of Project Pericles both enhances your institutional reputation and grants you unique access to concrete resources and opportunities for advancing your school’s educational and civic mission. In particular, members benefit from strategic funding opportunities for faculty pedagogical development and have the chance to collaborate with campus leaders in an intimate, trusted environment to collectively solve shared challenges and scale effective practices.
A New Chapter for the Periclean Consortium
This spring, we are inviting a small number of colleges and universities to join the Periclean consortium. We are looking for institutions where the public purpose of education is a north star–where leaders have made civic learning a genuine institutional priority, faculty are doing this work seriously, and students are being prepared to participate in democratic life.
Periclean membership means joining a community of institutions that share this conviction. It comes with resources and community–direct grant funding, a close-knit peer network of Program Directors and faculty, and national visibility at AAC&U and beyond. It also carries meaningful expectations: active participation in consortium life, a commitment to assessment and shared learning, and an annual membership contribution that supports the grants and convenings that benefit all member campuses.
Letters of Interest are due June 15, 2026. Institutions may be nominated by current Periclean Board members, Program Directors, or staff, or may express interest directly.
